Mechanical Design of Mixing Equipment
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mixing equipment must be designed for mechanical and process operation. Although mixer design begins with a focus on process requirements, the mechanical design is essential for successful operation. Usually, a competent manufacturer of mixing equipment will take responsibility for the mechanical design. However, process conditions, such as impeller operation near a liquid surface, can impose severe mechanical loads. Similarly, the process environment will influence the selection of a motor enclosure. In many ways the process requirements can have a direct impact on the mechanical design. In other ways, such as the natural frequency of a mixer shaft, appropriate mechanical design must be determined by the equipment designer. Whatever the reason, knowledge of the mechanical requirements for a mixer will help guide the engineer toward a design that will meet both process and mechanical criteria. The purpose of this chapter is to provide practical information about the mechanical design of mixing equipment. Therefore, descriptions, equations, and nomenclature will be given in both U.S. engineering units and metric units. Descriptions and equations using U.S. engineering units will follow common industrial practices used in the United States with design information for materials measured in inches and motors specified in horsepower. Design and fabrication of an effective micromixer through passive method
Micromixer is a significant component of microfluidics particularly in lab-on-chip applications so that there has been a growing need for design and fabrication of micromixers with a shorter length and higher efficiency. Despite most of the passive micromixers that suffer from long mixing path and complicated geometry to increase the efficiency, our novel design suggests a highly efficient micr...

LVAD is a mechanical pump supporting a weak heart function and blood flow. Sometimes, the heart may not recover fast enough to take over the pumping action immediately after surgery, in such patients a temporary support device has been employed to maintain the pumping action until the patient’s own heart recovers. This device can be considered as a temporary alternative before the process of ar...
متن کاملAnalysis of Mixing in Polymer Processing Equipment
Mixing is a key step in almost every polymer processing operation, affecting material properties, processability and cost. Polymers are blended with other polymers to combine their properties and sometimes to even synergistically increase their physical characteristics. Various additives and reinforcing agents are mixed with polymers to improve mechanical performance and impart specific propert...
متن کاملGas Mixing Simulation in a T-Shape Micro Channel Using The DSMC Method
Gas mixing in a T-shape micro mixer has been simulated using the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. It is considered that the adequate mixing occurs when the mass composition of the species, CO or N2, deviates below 1 % from their equilibrium composition. The mixing coefficient is defined as the ratio of the mixing length to the main channel’s height. As the inlet Kn increases, while ...

The present paper deals with the design of experimental work matrices for two groups of experiments by using Response surface methodology (RSM). The first EDM group was dealt with the use of kerosene dielectric alone, while the second was treated by adding the graphite micro powders mixing to dielectric fluid (PMEDM). The total heat flux generated and fatigue lives after EDM and PMEDM models we...
